About Tough Stuff Consulting
David Proud is the Principal at Tough Stuff Consulting and is a long-term resident of Port Macquarie commuting out for work for the last 17 years.
He has a diverse range of experiences across several large high-risk industries across Australia.
Commencing his career as an Industrial Instrument Technician with CSR in Sydney he then spent ~12 years at the remote bauxite & alumina refinery at Gove in East Arnhem Land NT.
Whilst at Gove, David moved off the tools and into OH&S – pivotally at a time when management initiated a significant cultural change program. David was intrinsically involved as a change agent in this initiative. This was the genesis of David’s interest in behavioural science. Through the same period, he completed a Graduate Diploma in Occupational Hazard Management at Ballarat University.
Over his career David was at the helm of various cultural change initiatives with several multinational organisations. He has facilitated in excess of 300 days of leadership programs to thousands of leaders – and he says - this has been the greatest gift to him of his career.
David comments: “You cannot be the face of the ‘idea of change’ to all of those people, over all that time without listening. And when you calmly listen and observe, you clearly see the diversity of thought, of motivation, of behaviour and the difficulty of change itself – it is tough stuff. I am truly grateful to all those people for what they taught me about us”.
Since 2017 David has been freelancing as a leadership and safety coach to clients such as MSF Sugar, PGH Bricks, Cape York Timber, C3 Logistics (NZ) & ISIS Sugar Mill QLD.
David describes himself as an authentic and pragmatic individual who is passionate about bringing the best out in others.
To improve his own work – life balance, David is working to establish a regional clientele servicing Taree, Foster, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Armidale.
